Accessibility

Web accessibility allows persons with a disability and individuals who cannot use a mouse to access information on websites. For example, blind individuals who use technical aids such as a refreshable Braille display and software such as screen-to-speech software can access informational content on Web pages. Mobility-impaired persons can also navigate easily on the Internet.

The Commission des normes du travail’s website is subject to three Québec government standards concerning Web accessibility, adopted on May 10, 2011:

The date of coming into force of each standard is different. For this reason, the Commission has initially focused on responding properly to the standard governing the accessibility of websites. Accordingly, a number of components of the website have been modified from the standpoint of visual presentation, navigation and information structure. However, the Commission will pursue its efforts in the coming months to meet within the stipulated deadlines the other two standards.

N.B.:

  • The changes made until now mainly concern the home page and first- and second-level pages on the website.
  • The website’s compliance has been verified by means of various tools, including release 2011.2 of NVDA software.
  • The following content does not entirely conform to accessibility standards:
    • the calendar of activities: the graphic element of the calendar is not accessible, but a textual equivalent for each event presented is provided
    • the viewer: the manipulation of the multimedia reader’s controls poses certain problems of use with a screen reader.
  • The Commission is unable to guarantee the accessibility of certain content from third parties not subject to the standards. Description of the iconsBelow is a list of the icons found on the Commission’s website to facilitate navigation.
