Confidentiality policy

Thank you for visiting our Web site and for reading our confidentiality policy. The Commission des normes du travail applies the confidentiality policy of the government portal.

The Commission des normes du travail does not place any permanent cookies on the hard drives of users. However, our site contains links to other government sites that may use this technology. For more information, we suggest that you read the confidentiality policy of those sites. Moreover, no personal information is collected without the prior consent of the Web surfer.

The information that is automatically exchanged between computers cannot be used to identify you personally. It is collected solely for the technological requirements inherent to navigating the World Wide Web and is used for statistical purposes only.

Information exchanged automatically

You should know that as soon as you gain access to our site (www.cnt.gouv.qc.ca), an exchange of information takes place between your computer and our Web site server. This exchange occurs automatically and without it being necessary for you to take any action. The information does not identify you personally. The following information is exchanged:

  1. the Internet domain name (for example, “xcompany.com” if you use a private account for your Internet access, or “university.edu” if your access is via a university) and your IP address (an IP address is a unique string of digits in the form of 123.456.789.123 which is automatically assigned to your computer by your Internet access provider each time you surf the Internet);
  2. the type of browser and operating system used to access our site;
  3. the date and time you gained access to our site;
  4. the pages that you visited;
  5. and if you reached the www.cnt.gouv.qc.ca site from another site (for example, a search engine), the address of that site.

This exchange of information is necessary in order for the server to send you a file that is compatible with the computer system that you are using. The Commission keeps the necessary information to record the number of users, the most frequently visited Web pages, the technology used by our clientele, the referral sites, and the Web surfers’ country of origin.

If you send us personal information

In accordance with the Act respecting documents held by public bodies and the protection of personal information, the department or organization requesting personal information from you must make sure that it is necessary to collect this information (section 64), identify itself and inform you (section 65):

  • of the name and address of the public body on whose behalf the information is being collected;
  • of the use to which the information will be put;
  • of the categories of persons who will have access to the information;
  • of the fact that a reply is obligatory, or that it is optional;
  • of the consequences for the person concerned or, as the case may be, for the third person, in case of a refusal to reply;
  • of the rights of access and correction provided by law.

If you choose to send us personal information, whether by e-mail or by completing a form, you can be sure that we will only use the information required to respond to and to follow up on your request. Electronic messages are treated with the same confidentiality measures as regular mail.

The personal information that you provide is only conveyed to another government body in the case where your request is addressed to that body or if this communication of information is required by law. In no case is the information conveyed used to create user profiles. Moreover, it is not conveyed to any private body.
